TUSC selects candidate in Lincoln East by-election
Lincoln Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition supporters have selected Nick Parker as the candidate for the Lincoln East by-election. The vacancy has arisen as a result of the national scandal which broke out after it was revealed that the sitting Tory councillor, Reverend Sara Cliff, had attended 19 meetings in the course of over 3 years. She resigned on Monday. The by-election, formally requested by TUSC on Tuesday, must take place by August 6th under electoral law. Lincoln TUSC received 8.9% of the vote in Abbey ward for Lincoln City Council, and activists will be hoping to build on this vote this time round.
Nick will be standing on an anti-cuts socialist platform, fighting for the following 10 point programme:
1) Re-open the 8 elderly care homes. Stop cuts and privatisation of the 31 day care centres.
2) No to academies! Bring back all academy schools under democratic local authority control.
3) Stop cuts in wind farm subsidies.
4) Save Queens Park School.
5) Defend youth and children services. Reverse cuts in Connexions. Bring back EMA.
6) Reverse bus route cuts. Invest in bus services.
7) Defend library services.
8) Fight attacks on council workers terms and conditions.
9) Bring back Mouchel and all other privatised services back under council control.
10) Award a £250 pay rise to all council staff earning less than £21,000 per year.
Please get involved and help our anti-cuts election campaign. This help could include coming out and knocking on doors with our canvassing team, leafleting, putting up a poster and, importantly, financially contributing to our campaign. We don’t get whopping donations from fat cats, non-doms or tax avoiders. We need money to print leaflets, posters and petitions, and pay for meeting venues.
This by-election can be a referendum on the brutal £125 million cuts agenda, which has destroyed over 1,000 jobs in the county. Get involved and build the movement against all cuts and privatisation!
Please spread the word to anyone you know living in Lincoln. Nick offers ordinary working people an alternative to cuts and austerity. A vote for him is a vote against the three big business parties, all of whom are equally intent on slashing our jobs and services to pay for a bankers’ financial crisis.
A TUSC election victory in Lincoln would have massively positive impact on the rest of the East Midlands in the fightback against cuts.
Vote Nick Parker (TUSC) on August 2nd.
