Building the Alternative to Mainstream Politics

Today in the searing September sun in Birmingham, around 1,000 trade unionists and activists from across the region rallied in defiance of the attacks on the working class being hatched within the Tory Party’s annual conference.

Unfortunately the Labour Party does nothing to distinguish themselves from our Tory class enemies, and after attending Labour’s conference last week, The Thick of It writer Ian Martin observed, “I can’t remember a more spineless opposition.” “Labour’s message to the electorate is clear” he summed up, “austerity is the new reality but we’re nicer than the Tories.”

With Ed Miliband’s promise (with provisos) that they might raise the minimum wage to £8 an hour in six years time, we will just have to feast at food banks for the time being. Meanwhile TUSC (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition) councillors will continue the good fight in the here and now, campaigning to raise the minimum wage to £10 NOW (not later!).

However, if you want to engage with a political conference that will make a definitive difference to your life, then come allow to Methodist Church on Town Hall Square in Leicester on Saturday 25th October from 11am onwards to contribute your thoughts and ideas to the momentous TUSC People’s Budget Conference.

Join TUSC councillors Wayne Naylor and Barbara Potter and help make history by creating a budget for the city based upon people’s need rather than bankers’ greed!
