People’s Budget Conference
On Saturday 25th October, Leicester’s famed rebel Councillors Barbara Potter and Wayne Naylor will be hosting the TUSC People’s Budget Conference in Leicester.
Having just launched Leicester Independent Councillors Against Cuts’ (LICAC) brand-spanking-new web site on Monday, both Wayne and Barbara are steadfast in their opposition to all cuts to public services, and are keen to get their campaign for a positive alternative to mainstream political parties underway.
The aim of the People’s Budget is to give local people attending the event the opportunity to look at key issues concerning the city’s budget process and to tell the Councillors what they think the city needs. The conference is being held at Bishop Street Methodist Church from 11am till 4pm and will have “Living in Leicester” workshops about…
• Defeating the Housing Crisis
• Fighting for the future of Young People
• Demanding Decent Jobs and a Living Wage
• Saving Neighbourhood Services
• Improving Health and Well-being
As well as the LICAC Councillors, guest speakers will include former Socialist MP, Dave Nellist, who is the TUSC National Chairman, and Cllr Keith Morrell, who was recently elected as a TUSC Councillor in Southampton.
“But the important voices of the day will be local people, talking about the things that affect them, thinking of ways in which we can tackle them and how the council’s budget could be restructured to deliver more for the people of the city”, said Cllr Potter. “This is an exciting new way forward ad something that I’m not aware has been done in the city before”.
“We hope people will come and find out what we are all about, use the website to find out more and consider becoming a part of a team to strive for election success in 2015” said Cllr Naylor. “Leicester needs councillors to fight cuts, we hope that we will find people in the city who are prepared to do that!”
