Solidarity Message From Hull to Leicester TUSC Conference
Gill Kennett and Dean Kirk sent this solidarity message from Hull this week to the TUSC People’s Budget Conference that was held in Leicester today. Both Gill and Dean are Independent Councillors in Hull, who have been suspended from the Labour Group for voting against Labour’s austerity budget. They wrote…
We wish you every success in your meeting to devise a Budget which will be based on the needs of the people rather than the needs of the ‘market’; the needs of the vulnerable rather than the need to ensure that the directors have the ‘lions share’ and the needs of the workers to have their terms and conditions retained rather than them being ‘sold off’ for the need to make the biggest profit. We share with you the knowledge/belief that sick and vulnerable people are not for sale.
It is indeed appalling that the party that purports to represent the working people, are not offering any alternative, therefore leaving a huge vacuum that is in danger of being filled by the far right, as in the period between the wars. You are, like us, the people who are trying to work to offer that alternative and we wish you all the very best for your first meeting and for the future.
Solidarity with you all and keep in touch.
Kind regards
Gill Kennett and Dean Kirk
