Dowsing the Flames of Mordaunt
The spectre of privisitisation is stalking Britain. With the streets haunted by ghouls, firefighters across the country launched a four day strike earlier this evening. This at a time when there are many real monsters inhabiting Parliament: evil apparitions whose coven of austerity means that they have refused to bring any new offer to the table over firefighters pensions, despite two months of talks.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) states that it has negotiated in good faith and has taken up every opportunity to make its case and to seek changes to the government’s pension plans, which the union says are expensive and unworkable. THIS IS A GOVERNMENT OF TRICKS AND NO TREATS!
Despite promising statements from Penny Mordaunt, the Westminster fire minister, it is now clear the government does not want to resolve this dispute and is spoiling for a fight.
Here in Leicester, Eastern Station Watch Manager said that tomorrow firefighters from across the city will be protesting by the Clock Tower in town (from 12pm onwards). This being just one of many such defiant events which “will be mirrored and reflected across the country.”
With regard to potential future action the Watch Manager added…
“…personally I think that united strike action would be a good idea, as the Government is letting a lot of the public sector down, like the police, and the NHS as well. It all seems to be in a bit of a state, and the Government needs to do something to address it. The public sector, your emergency services, your NHS, your teachers, they’re the people that we all need, and we need to be motivating them, pushing them to be better, and certainly what the Government is doing is demotivating them.”
