Doctors Fighting for Our NHS

Junior doctors in the BMA (British Medical Association) have been out on strike again today (and yesterday) continuing their magnificent battle against imposed, worsened contracts.

This time they are again providing emergency care, but on 26 and 27 April they will escalate their action to a full strike.

In an interview on BBC Radio Leicester yesterday, Hannah Fosker, a junior doctor at Glenfield Hospital, was asked about why the BMA have called a fourth strike:

“It’s a concerning precedent to be set if they are able to do that to a group of people against such great concerns; and we want them to step back from imposition and get back to negotiations with the BMA.”

When asked about the escalating strike action and the risk this may pose for patients, Dr Fosker continued:

“We would far rather not be on strike at all, let alone an emergency all out strike, but we’ve been pushed into a corner.”

A regional demonstration was also held in Nottingham yesterday evening, where medical staff came together with members of the public for a “blue light vigil for the NHS”.

Another protest to support the junior doctors will be taking place in Leicester City Centre this Saturday at midday.
